Operational strength measurement for a railcar

For Stadler Rail AG, we carried out an operational load measurement on a railcar that is used in mixed operation on adhesion and rack railway lines. The measurement realistically reflects the different structural loads.

Approach:

As an accredited testing laboratory in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025, we support our customer with operational stability measurements for the new Mont Blanc Express vehicles.

The vehicle was equipped with more than 250 sensors in collaboration with Stadler Rail's equally accredited testing laboratory. The measurement data was recorded using our user-friendly ACQUA® measurement software.

ACQUA® enables reliable online monitoring of all measurement signals. Malfunctions or failures of specific sensors are detected within seconds. This allows targeted repair measures to be initiated immediately if necessary and enables any data loss to be detected as quickly as possible.

Measurements are carried out in accordance with international standards and the specific requirements of our customers:

  • EN 13749 – Determination of strength requirements for bogie frames

  • EN 12663-1 – Strength requirements for rail vehicle bodies

  • EN 15827 – System Engineering for bogies and running gear

Result:

Our structured approach and precise data collection enable us to obtain reliable and meaningful measurement data from real-world operation to verify operational stability.

For our customers, this means:

  • Full data sovereignty, as raw and measurement data are provided without pre-interpretation

  • High transparency and traceability through structured, standard-compliant data collection

  • Independent and neutral measurement execution as a reliable basis for internal evaluations and approval processes

This is how we create planning security and reliability – from development and approval to subsequent operation.
