Strength assessment of a conical spring as an emergency spring

Engenium was commissioned to carry out a strength assessment for the metal components of a conical spring in accordance with the FKM guideline. This suspension element serves as an additional suspension for the secondary air suspension, as well as an emergency spring in case of failure of the air suspension in bogies of an urban railway.

 

Solution approach:

For this purpose, an FE model was first created and then a cyclic and static strength verification was provided for load cases specified by the customer.

Results:

The required strength verifications for the specified loads could be provided for our customer, thus proving the structural integrity of the components.
