Optimization and calculation of a test bench for load handling devices

For our customer, an optimization of his test benches (stationary and mobile variant) was to be carried out in order to reduce the manufacturing and material costs. These test benches are used for testing slinging and load handling devices according to the Work Equipment Ordinance (e.g. chains, ropes, magnets, clamps, ...).

 

Solution approach:

In order to optimize the mobile test bench, design studies were carried out in terms of weight and structural strength. Subsequently, the strength verification according to the FKM guideline was provided for two variants of the test bench, and critical loads such as buckling were evaluated taking imperfections into account.

Results:

For the new design, all required strength verifications according to the FKM guideline could be provided for the respective load cases. The objectives with regard to weight reduction and thus reduction of manufacturing and material costs were achieved in full.
