Measurement of operational strength with a tram

We were commissioned by Stadler Rail AG to conduct track tests as part of the validation program for the structural integrity of a five-part tram...

Approach:

Track tests were conducted in Germany to verify the operational stability of various components of the Stadler Rail AG tram. The components were instrumented in advance at our site in Graz and calibrated on our mobile test bench. We installed a total of more than 40 sensors on site to meet the requirements of our customer's technical specifications and international standards:

  • EN 13749 – Specification procedures for strength requirements for bogie frames

  • EN 15827 – Requirements for bogies and chassis

During the measurements, the measurement data was continuously checked for plausibility using the ACQUA®  measurement software developed by Engenium and then evaluated in accordance with the specifications.

Result:

The operational strength measurements of the tram provide a reliable basis for standard-compliant verification of the load-bearing capacity of the tested attachments.

For our customers, this means:

  • Minimized risk in the approval process thanks to precise, standard compliant in accordance with EN 13749 and EN 15827

  • Time and cost efficiency, as anomalies are identified during the measurement campaing

  • Seamless data recording with our measurement software ACQUA®

  • Reliable basis for decision-making for optimizations in vehicle design and for ensuring operational strength

The results thus contribute directly to ensuring the reliability and service life of the new trams and to successfully implementing the project objectives of Stadler Rail AG.
